SOMETHING I COULDN'T DO BEFORE COUNSELLING -
I walked into the cafe, my nerves were on fire.
As a previous "shut-in" I felt like everyone was staring and my heart was ready to retire.
I approached the counter, my voice was barely a squeak
I managed to order a coffee but I could hardly even speak
I waited for my drink trying to hide in plain sight but my heart was beating so loudly I was sure it would ignite.
The barista called my name and I practically jumped out of my skin.
I paid and ran for the door I needed to escape, I couldn't win.
I sat in my car and took a sip of my brew - I couldn't help but laugh at my social anxiety, it's true.
But I'll keep working on it now I know I'll get better thanks to Aly and her crew and at least I have my decaf coffee to make me feel better too.
